Great white pelican
Pelecanus onocrotalus
The Great White Pelican lives in large colonies and cooperates with other individuals when fishing, herding fish into shallow water before catching them with its large bill and expandable throat pouch. It spends most of its time around lakes, rivers and wetlands, feeding almost exclusively on fish. Its survival is closely linked to the health of aquatic habitats, which provide both food and suitable breeding sites.
