Common Green Iguana

Iguana iguana

The green iguana spends much of its day in the treetops, moving with remarkable agility thanks to its strong claws and long tail, which helps it maintain balance. When threatened, it can dive into the water and is an excellent swimmer. Despite being one of the largest lizards in the Americas, it feeds mainly on leaves, flowers and fruit. Deforestation and illegal collection for the pet trade continue to threaten wild populations.

IUCN RED LIST

The IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) classifies living species according to criteria that take into account their level of threat of extinction: the Red List is an indispensable tool for coordinating nature conservation actions, a veritable barometer of the health of our Planet.
