Central Bearded Dragon
Pogona vitticeps
The bearded dragon takes its name from the spiny scales beneath its throat, which it can inflate and darken to intimidate rivals or defend itself when threatened. It is a mainly diurnal reptile that spends many hours basking in the sun and communicates with other individuals through body postures and characteristic head and body movements. Habitat loss and illegal collection continue to threaten some wild populations.
