Common Emu
Dromaius novaehollandiae
The Emu lives alone or in small groups, gathering with other individuals mainly when food is plentiful. An excellent runner, it can travel long distances in search of water and vegetation thanks to its long legs, which are well adapted to open landscapes. During the breeding season, it is the male that incubates the eggs and cares for the chicks for several months, while the female may breed again.
