Rabbit
Oryctolagus cuniculus
The Rabbit is a highly social animal that lives in organized groups and communicates through body postures, ear movements and scent signals. It spends much of the day grazing on grasses and other herbaceous plants, alternating feeding with periods of rest in sheltered places. Its powerful hind legs allow it to make rapid leaps and quickly reach safety when threatened.

Domestication began in Europe. Today, it is bred all over the world.

Until 20 years ago, rabbits were bred only for meat and fur; today they are also kept as pets. Dwarf breeds have been specifically developed for this purpose.
