Camelus bactrianus
The Bactrian camel is perfectly adapted to the extreme environments of Central Asia, where it can withstand scorching summers and winters with temperatures well below freezing. Its two humps store fat, providing a valuable energy reserve when food is scarce. It lives in social groups and has accompanied people across Asia for thousands of years, serving as a pack and working animal along the ancient Silk Road.
The wild species lives in Asia (China and Mongolia). It is bred all over the world.

A camel’s humps are not filled with water, but with fat that is stored as a food reserve.
If it cannot eat or drink for several weeks, it uses this fat as a source of energy.
