Ball Python
Python regius
The ball python is a non-venomous snake that, when threatened, coils itself into a tight ball, hiding its head in the centre of its body. This defensive behaviour, from which its common English name is derived, helps protect its most vulnerable parts. An ambush predator, it captures prey by constricting it with its coils before swallowing it whole.

It is also called the “ball python” because, when defending itself, it curls up into a ball by wrapping itself around its own body.
