Madagascar Day Gecko

Phelsuma madagascariensis

The Madagascar Day Gecko is one of the few geckos that is active during the day. Thanks to the specialised adhesive pads beneath its toes, it can climb effortlessly on tree trunks, leaves and smooth surfaces, even upside down. Its bright colours provide effective camouflage among tropical vegetation, where it feeds on insects, nectar and fruit. Habitat loss and illegal collection for the pet trade remain the main threats to wild populations.

IUCN RED LIST

The IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) classifies living species according to criteria that take into account their level of threat of extinction: the Red List is an indispensable tool for coordinating nature conservation actions, a veritable barometer of the health of our Planet.
