Red panda
Ailurus fulgens
The red panda lives in the montane forests of the Himalayas and south-western China, where it spends much of its life in the trees. It is a predominantly solitary animal, defending its territory and meeting other individuals almost exclusively during the breeding season. Habitat loss and forest fragmentation are now the greatest threats to this species, which is classified as Endangered on the IUCN Red List.
